A simmering land dispute turned violent on today afternoon at Fattu Wala village, just 6 km from the district headquarters, leaving one woman dead and two others seriously injured.

As per information, the clash was over the possession of 4.5 acres of disputed land, which is currently sub-judice in court. However, matters escalated when a group of 20–25 armed individuals, carrying sharp-edged weapons, arrived at the site and allegedly attempted to forcibly occupy the land.

(SUBHEAD)In a desperate attempt to resist the encroachment, Kashmiro (50), wife of Kala Singh, along with other family members, tried to stop the attackers. In the scuffle, Kashmiro was fatally attacked with a sharp weapon, while two others Nikko, wife of Mangal, and Sukhwinder Kaur, daughter of Raj Kumar, sustained serious injuries. After committing the crime, the accused fled the spot.

On receiving information, SSP Bhupinder Singh, along with other senior officials, reached the site and took stock of the situation. A heavy police presence was deployed in the area to prevent further escalation.

SSP Bhupinder Singh said that FIR has been registered and multiple teams have been formed to identify and arrest the accused. Strict action will be taken against those responsible.
