In a tragic incident, a Punjab Police inspector identified as Gurpreet Singh (45), a resident of the city area, died of a cardiac arrest.

As per information, the deceased had been undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Amritsar. Earlier, he was posted as the Station House Officer (SHO) at Mallanwala and was transferred to the police lines just a few days ago as part of a routine process.

Inspector Gurpreet had joined the force as an ASI in 2004 and had earlier served in the CID department in Faridkot. He was transferred to this border district in 2019 and had served at various police stations including Zira Sadar, Zira City, Makhu, Ghall Khurd, and Guruharsahai, before being given charge as SHO of Mallanwala police station.

“He was just all right. Just a few days ago, I had met him and he seemed to be fine. Never realized that such a tragedy would occur like this,” said one of Gurpreet’s friends.

Gurpreet is survived by his wife, a government teacher, and three children including two daughters and a son.

SSP Bhupinder Singh Sidhu expressed his grief over the incident and said all possible help would be provided to the kith and kin of the deceased.

Earlier in 2018, the then SSP Manminder Singh had also died due to cardiac arrest.
