SIX AMONG TWO SCRAP DEALERS, HELD FOR THEFT OF RAILWAY PROPERTY AND ASSAULTED STAFF

In a major crackdown, six persons, including two scrap dealers, were arrested by the Railway Protection Force (RPF), Crime Intelligence Branch (CIB), and GRP Ferozepur in connection with the theft of railway property and an attack on on-duty railway staff. A large quantity of stolen material, including 80 meters of under-frame wire, has also been recovered during the operation.

While divulging details, GRP officials said that on July 17, the RPF and CIB team apprehended two prime accused, Rinku Kumar (25), a resident of Mohalla Valmiki near Bair Sahib, Guruharsahai and Bobby (21), a resident of Awa Basti near Pani Wali Tanki, Ferozepur City.

“40 meters of 50mm under-frame wire worth Rs 9,000 was recovered from them. Both accused were produced before the ACJM Ferozepur court and were sent to 14 days of judicial custody. After medical examination, they were sent to the Central Jail”, said GRP officials.

(SUBHEAD)Based on their statements, two more individuals involved in the theft, Ricky alias Lucky Bhoot (21) and Ravikant alias Sajan (17), both residents of Basti Awa in city area, were taken into custody. Ravikant, being a juvenile, was taken under RPF protection as per legal procedures.

Further investigation led to the arrest of two scrap dealers identified as Satish Kumar (54) and Lokesh (22) who had allegedly purchased the stolen railway property. From them, the team recovered 64 meters of 50mm wire, 80 meters of 16mm wire, and 50 meters of 4mm wire, worth Rs. 26,500.

All four were produced before the ACJM court and were sent to judicial custody for 14 days. “Investigations are ongoing, and further raids are being conducted to trace other suspects involved in the racket”, said GRP officials.

Earlier, a case was initially registered on July 15, 2025, at the Outer Post of Ferozepur City under case number 07/25 of the Railway Property (Unlawful Possession) Act. A parallel FIR no. 24/2025 was also lodged by GRP Ferozepur under sections 3(5), 121(1), 121(2), 132, and 221 of the BNS for theft of government property and assault on railway personnel.
