In a significant breakthrough under the state’s ongoing “Yudh Nashay De Khilaf” campaign, Punjab Police today arrested a notorious drug smuggler and seized 15 kilograms of heroin from his possession during a targeted operation near Sodhi Nagar village, about 17 km from the district headquarters.

Divulging details, DIG Ferozepur Range Harmanbir Singh Gill said the accused, identified as Ramesh Kumar (50), a resident of Mohkam Khan Wala village in Kulgarhi block, was intercepted while travelling in a Swift Dzire (HR 26 BP 8555) based on specific intelligence inputs.

“During the search, 15 kg of heroin was recovered from the vehicle. The accused has been booked under Section 21 of the NDPS Act at Ghall Khurd Police Station (FIR No. 81 dated 24.07.2025),” said the DIG.

Ferozepur SSP Bhupinder Singh revealed that Ramesh Kumar is a repeat offender with five previous cases registered against him at various police stations across the district. “We are currently probing the forward and backward linkages of this consignment, and further arrests are likely,” he added.
