(MOREPIC1) Punjab Health and Family Welfare Minister Dr. Balbir Singh on Thursday convened a meeting with officials from various departments to review the ongoing rehabilitation efforts for people affected by floods in the district.

During the meeting the health minister held detailed deliberations with the officers on the current situation in the flood-affected villages, the progress of resettling people, sanitation measures, and the arrangements made to prevent water-borne and vector-borne diseases. He said that there is always a risk of spreading of various diseases in villages after floods.

“Keeping in mind the situation, 715 doctors who were soon to be given the appointment letters, have been asked to join early and work during this period of crisis. Out of these 715, 472 doctors have already joined in various districts”, said health minister.

The heath directed the district administration and health officials to work with full vigilance for the resettlement of people and prevention of diseases in the post-flood period. He instructed that medical camps be organised on a rotation basis in the affected villages and assured that the Punjab Government will deploy expert doctors for people's health check-ups.

“During the various medical camps in Punjab recently, the OPD of 1.42 lakh patients had been done and the department is still on alert”, said health minister.

Later the health minister also held a meeting with NGOs from the district.

The meeting was attended by MLA Rajnish Dahiya and Ranbir Singh Bhullar, ADC (G) Damanjit Singh Mann, Additional Deputy Commissioner (Development) Nidhi Kumud Bambah, Assistant Civil Surgeon Sushma Thakkar, Dr. Meenakshi Abrol, officers from various departments, and representatives of NGOs.
