MINISTRY OF INFORMATION & BROADCASTING KICKSTARTS CLEANLINESS DRIVE FROM WAR MEMORIAL ON GANDHI JAYANTI

NCC’S FIRST PUNJAB BATTALION ACTIVELY PARTICIPATES IN CLEANLINESS DRIVE

The Central Bureau of Communication of the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting, Government of India, in collaboration with NCC’s First Punjab Battalion, organized a program at the War Memorial to spread the message of the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan. Following this, a large-scale cleanliness drive was carried out in the city. On this occasion, the youth, who gathered in large numbers took a pledge to keep their surroundings clean before beginning the shramdaan.

Addressing the gathering, Subedar Gurnam Singh said that religious scriptures highlight the importance of air, water, and earth. Hence, we must prove ourselves to be responsible citizens by giving priority to cleanliness. He further said that the use of polythene should be stopped and replaced with cloth bags.

On this occasion, NCC officer Sukhpal Singh Sandhu stated that the cleanliness campaign was launched on the birth anniversaries of the Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi and former Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri ji. Over the last 11 years, Swachh Bharat has grown into a major movement. During the event, Nisha, official from the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting, explained that developed nations give special attention to cleanliness, and in our country too, such initiatives must be taken not only by the government but also by the people.

On this occasion, Mandeep Kaur, the Community Facilitator of the Municipal Corporation, said that every citizen must step forward to keep the surroundings clean. She added that instead of throwing plastic on the streets, it should be disposed off in dustbins. Meanwhile, Community Facilitator Davinderjit Kaur emphasized that everyone should understand the difference between wet and dry waste and segregate it accordingly.

As part of the program, a rally was also taken out from the War Memorial to India Gate to spread the message of cleanliness. Along with this, a large number of people and students participated in Shramdaan and spread the message of keeping the nation clean. During the drive, participants were also informed about Plastic Waste Management and the recycling of plastic.

The street play performed during the program captivated the audience and explained the importance of making cleanliness a part of life in an engaging manner. Overall, the program organized by the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting concluded successfully, spreading a message of not only cleanliness but also environmental conservation, and infused new energy among the residents of the town.
