A campaign was launched in Sriganganagar to prevent child begging and child exploitation. So far, 20 children have been freed from begging and are being connected to child welfare programs.

(MOREPIC1)The Child Welfare Committee and Child Helpline 1098 jointly launched the campaign. Children and their families were counselled, restrained, and parents were warned that any child forced to beg could face jail time.

(SUBHEAD)CWC Chairman Joginder Kaushik said that the campaign began with an anti-begging drive being conducted on the city's main roads. As part of this, a child dressed as a clown by applying chemical paint to his body was apprehended at Gagan Path Road, Ahimsa Square. His family was counselled and encouraged to stop begging. The families of children involved in begging were made aware about their education and preventing them from begging, their domestic situation was also assessed.

Renu Khairwa, Assistant Director of the Child Rights Department, appealed to the public that if they find any child involved in begging nearby, they should inform the Child Helpline 1098.

On the 18th day of the campaign, Child Welfare Committee Chairman Joginder Kaushik, member Dr. Ram Prakash Sharma and Child Helpline coordinator Trilok Verma were present.
