DISTRICT-LEVEL EVENT ORGANIZED ON NATIONAL CANCER AWARENESS DAY

On the occasion of National Cancer Awareness Day, a district-level event was organized at DAV College of Education, Abohar. Dr. Saurabh Phutela, Pulmonary Medicine Specialist, College Principal Vijay Grover, District Mass Media Officer Vinod Khurana, Deputy Mass Media Officer Manbir Singh, Dr. Reema Pahuja, Manika and others were present.

Dr. Saurabh Phutela emphasized that excessive pesticides should not be used on crops. Alcohol, tobacco, and cigarettes should be avoided. Regular check-ups should be sought by a specialist doctor. Eat a balanced diet daily. Women should consult a doctor if they experience changes in menstrual symptoms. The use of tobacco and tobacco products increases the risk of cancer in any part of the body. Smoking is responsible for approximately 40 percent of cancer deaths.

District Mass Media Officer Vinod Khurana and Deputy Mass Media Officer Manbir Singh informed that under the Chief Minister's Punjab Cancer Relief Fund, cancer patients are provided free treatment up to Rs 1.5 lakh at all medical colleges (Amritsar, Faridkot, Patiala), government hospitals in Punjab, Max Hospital and Advanced Cancer Hospital, Bathinda, Homi Bhabha Cancer Hospital, Sangrur, AIIMS, Delhi, PGI, etc. Financial assistance for free treatment is also provided under this scheme at prominent medical institutions at other places. Under the Ayushman Bharat Chief Minister's Health Insurance Scheme, cancer patients are being treated free of cost in government and accredited hospitals up to Rs 5 lakh.
