Chairman of the Punjab State Scheduled Castes Commission, S. Jasvir Singh Garhi, has taken suo-moto notice of a serious incident reported in the media, regarding the alleged refusal to keep the body of a Dalit youth in the mortuary. Taking cognizance of the matter, he has issued strict directions to the Deputy Commissioner, Rupnagar to conduct an immediate inquiry and submit a detailed report. 

Chairman S. Jasvir Singh Garhi stated that any form of discrimination, negligence, or inhumane behaviour towards Scheduled Castes will not be tolerated under any circumstances. He emphasised that the Commission's top priority is to ensure thorough investigation, prompt action, and timely justice for the affected individuals. Accordingly, the concerned officials have been ordered to submit factual and responsibility-based reports within the stipulated timeframe. 

The Chairman informed that the SDM and Civil Surgeon of Rupnagar have been instructed to personally appear before the Commission on 19 November and present a complete action-taken report. 

In addition, Chairman S. Jasvir Singh Garhi has also sought a detailed status report regarding the ₹25 crore funds announced for the Sri Guru Ravidas Study Centre. 

For this purpose, the Deputy Commissioner, Jalandhar, has been directed to present all related records, progress reports, and the action plan through the concerned ADC, who must personally appear before the Commission on 26 November at 11:30 AM.
