CROSS-BORDER NARCOTICS SMUGGLING NETWORK BUSTED IN AMRITSAR; ONE HELD WITH 5KG HEROIN

Amidst the ongoing drive to make Punjab a drug free state as per the directions of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, Counter Intelligence (CI) Amritsar has busted a cross-border narcotics smuggling module with the arrest of its one operative and recovered 5 kg heroin from his possession, said Director General of Police (DGP) Punjab Gaurav Yadav here on Monday. 

The arrested accused has been identified as Kuldeep Singh, a resident of village Bhindi Aulakh Kalan in Amritsar Rural. Apart from recovering contraband, the police teams have also impounded his Hero Deluxe motorcycle, being used for transporting the consignments. 

DGP Gaurav Yadav said that preliminary investigations have revealed that the arrested accused person Kuldeep Singh was acting upon the directions of Pakistan-based smuggler identified as Awan, who has been using drones to drop the consignments of narcotics from across the border. 

Sharing operational details, the DGP said that teams of CI Amritsar had received a specific intelligence that about the retrieval a huge consignment of narcotics from Indo-Pak border area falling near village Bhindi Aulakh and the suspect is expected to deliver the consignment to the next party in the area near Gate of village Bhindi Aulakh. Acting swiftly, police team of CI Amritsar intercepted the suspect Kuldeep Singh on Ajnala to Lopoke road and recovered heroin consignment from his possession, he said.

He said that further investigation is underway to uncover the network’s backward and forward linkages.  In this regard, a case FIR No. 71 dated 29-11-2025 has been registered under sections 21, 25 and 29 of the NDPS Act at Police Station State Special Operations Cell, Amritsar.
