CLOSED-DOOR SCRUTINY EXPOSES ALARMING VIOLATIONS OF ELECTION NORMSM, MASS REJECTION OF BJP CANDIDATES WITHOUT REASONS SPARKS OUTRAGERETURNING OFFICERS ACCUSED OF ARBITRARY, ILLEGAL AND MECHANICAL REJECTIONSROS BLATANTLY VIOLATES MANDATORY ELECTORAL NORMS

Acting on the directions of Working State President of Bharatiya Janata Party Punjab, Ashwani Sharma, the State Convenor of the BJP Legal Cell, Advocate N.K. Verma, today formally lodged a detailed complaint before the State Election Commissioner, Punjab, highlighting grave violations in the scrutiny of nomination papers for the Zila Parishad and Block Samiti elections.

According to the complaint, the scrutiny held yesterday ( 5 Dec ) was conducted behind closed doors, where no candidate or authorised representative was allowed to remain present, a move that blatantly violates mandatory electoral norms . The complaint further states that a large number of BJP candidates’ nomination papers were rejected across multiple districts without any valid, specific, or speaking reasons, raising serious questions on transparency and fairness in the ongoing election process .

The BJP has alleged that Returning Officers acted arbitrarily and mechanically, ignoring principles of natural justice and the legal requirement to allow candidates to rectify curable defects before rejection. BJP Punjab has demanded immediate corrective action, a review of all illegal rejection orders, and directions to ensure a lawful, transparent scrutiny process. The party stated that urgent intervention is essential to prevent injustice and uphold the sanctity of the democratic process .
