ANTI CHITTA DRIVE IN HIMACHAL: 20 DRUG MANUFACTURING UNITS INSPECTED

Under the state-wide Anti-Chitta Drive launched by Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu on 15 November, Himachal Pradesh Police and the State Drug Department  on Wednesday inspected 20 drug manufacturing units across the state that were closed, permanently/temporarily suspended, or had surrendered their licenses. The primary objective of this campaign is to curb the illegal manufacturing of prohibited drugs and to prevent their unlawful trafficking.

(MOREPIC1)  The inspection drive was carried out transparently and systematically with the active cooperation of Himachal Pradesh Police and drug inspectors. During the operation, verification of manufacturing licenses, scrutiny of documents, stock audits, and physical inspections were conducted. In addition, thorough searches of all warehouses and production areas were performed. The entire process was executed with complete fairness and transparency.

This initiative aims to prevent the illegal production of counterfeit medicines, unlicensed drugs, and psychotropic substances. Recent intelligence inputs indicate the possible misuse of closed or inactive drug manufacturing units for the secret production of illegal drugs, including counterfeit medicines, fake branded drugs, and psychotropic substances.

As part of this inspection campaign, simultaneous and surprise inspections were conducted today in manufacturing units with permanently or temporarily suspended, or surrendered licenses. Inspections were carried out in six districts of the state—two units in Una, two in Bilaspur, four in Solan, one in Sirmaur, one in Police District Nurpur, and ten units in Police District Baddi. Additionally, inspections are still underway at five other drug manufacturing units.

During this special drive, irregularities were found in four drug manufacturing units that were closed or had suspended or surrendered licenses. Necessary legal action is being taken against these units as per rules.

Himachal Pradesh Police continues to work with strict zero-tolerance against narcotics and remains fully committed to preventing any misuse, illegal manufacturing, or unlawful trafficking in drug manufacturing units.
