TRIBUTES PAID TO THE SACRIFICES OF THE COUNTRY'S DEFENDERS AT ASAFWALA WAR MEMORIAL

Tributes were paid to the brave soldiers who sacrificed their lives in the 1971 Indo-Pak war and protected the country in an impressive ceremony held today at Asafwala War Memorial.

Brigadier Sushil Chandwani, Colonel Robin Kumar, Colonel Chandrakant Sharma, Colonel Soumya Ranjan Pati, Colonel Harpreet Singh, Colonel M.S. Gill, Deputy Commissioner Amarpreet Kaur Sandhu and Naveen Gupta, Circle Head PNB paid their respects.

Brigadier Sushil Chandwani said that we have come together to pay homage to those brave sons who showed extraordinary bravery in the 1971 war and protected the borders of the country by sacrificing their lives and the people of the area know them as the protectors of Fazilka. He mentioned the warm relations of Fazilka with the army and said that here the people and the army walk shoulder to shoulder and the army is proud of this relationship. He also paid tribute to the families of the soldiers who were martyred in the 1971 war and expressed his gratitude towards those whose family members had sacrificed while fighting for the country.

Praful Chander Nagpal informed that a mini marathon starting from the Asafwala War Memorial was also organised. A book “Sarhad-e-Fazilka” written by Dr. Uma Sharma was also released. A cultural program was presented by school students.
