CBI COURT SENTENCES ARMY SEPOY TO THREE YEARS IMPRISONMENT IN A JOB FRAUD CASE

The CBI Court, Assam, on Monday, convicted and sentenced Vijay Kumar Gupta, Sepoy (MT), ASC Battalion to Three Years Imprisonment with a fine of Rs.10,000 in a case of Corruption and Cheating arising from blatant misuse of official position.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) registered the instant case on 15.05.2019 on a complaint lodged by a Brigadier, which revealed that the accused Vijay Kumar Gupta, while working and posted as Sepoy (MT) 556 Army Service Corps (ASC), Battalion, Siger, Mebo, Pasighat, Arunachal Pradesh, during the period 2011 to 2018, in conspiracy with unknown others, cheated a woman of Rs. 1.50 Lakh by falsely promising to secure a government job for her son.

After investigation, CBI filed a charge sheet against the accused Vijay Kumar Gupta, Sepoy and S. K. Pandey, Naik on 31.12.2019. Charges were framed by the Hon'ble Court on 31.03.2022.

The Hon’ble Court, after the trial, acquitted S. K. Pandey and sentenced the convicted accused Vijay Kumar Gupta accordingly.
