Face2News/Chandigarh:

A sensational theft incident has raised serious questions over night patrolling and security arrangements in one of the city’s busiest and supposedly most secure markets. An unidentified thief struck the Sector-22 City Heart Mobile Market between late Wednesday night and early Thursday morning at around 2 a.m.

According to initial information, the accused primarily targeted SG Mobile Telecom, from where cash worth over ₹10 lakh was stolen. Not stopping there, the thief also broke into six other shops located on the same floor of the market.

From some shops, expensive mobile phones were stolen, while others reported cash theft, indicating a well-planned operation carried out by a single accused. The incident caused panic among shopkeepers when the theft came to light in the morning.

The scale of the burglary has put the effectiveness of police night patrolling and the market’s security system under scrutiny. Police have registered a case and are examining CCTV footage from the market and surrounding areas to identify the accused.

Further investigation is underway.
