CBI COURT AWARDS TWO YEARS RIGOROUS IMPRISONMENT TO DRT INSPECTOR AND ADVOCATE IN A BRIBERY CASE

The CBI Court, Ahmedabad, on 23.12.2025, has convicted and sentenced the accused persons namely, Anil Kumar Sharma, the then Recovery Inspector, Debt Recovery Tribunal (DRT), Ashram Road, Ahmedabad and Amit Kotak, Advocate, DRT, Ashram Road, Ahmedabad to Two years Rigorous Imprisonment (RI) with a total fine of Rs.1.5 Lakh in a Bribery case. 

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) registered the insatnt case on 15.01.2009 on the allegations that the accused Anil Kumar Sharma, the then Recovery Inspector, and Amit Kotak, Advocate, DRT demanded an illegal gratification of Rs.3,50,000 from the complainant for settling of auction issue of three properties and deferment of execution of the already auctioned property of cousin of the complainant.

The accused Anil Kumar Sharma had demanded that an amount of Rs.1,00,000 may be paid first and the balance amount of Rs.2,50,000 was to be paid later. CBI laid a trap and caught the accused Amit Kotak, Advocate, DRT red-handed while accepting illegal gratification of Rs.1,00,000 from the complainant. The accused Anil Kumar Sharma and Amit Kotak were arrested on 16.01.2009. Searches were conducted at the residence and office of both the accused. After completion of investigation, CBI filed chargesheet on 26.11.2009 against the accused Anil Kumar Sharma and Amit Kotak.

The Hon’ble Court, after the trial, convicted and sentenced the accused persons accordingly.
