The Excise & Taxation Department, Union Territory of Chandigarh, continues its sustained, comprehensive and stringent monitoring, inspection and enforcement activities to ensure strict compliance with the Excise Policy 2025–26 and the Punjab Excise Act, 1914. The ongoing efforts aim to maintain discipline in the excise sector, prevent revenue leakage, and ensure fair trade practices within the Union Territory.

To further strengthen these objectives, the Department intensified enforcement efforts and undertook a special inspection drive during the current month. Shri Nishant Kumar Yadav, IAS, Excise & Taxation Commissioner, Chandigarh, informed that under this drive, surprise inspections were conducted at all retail liquor vends across various sectors and locations in the UT.

Key actions taken under the drive include: • 18.12.2025 – A retail liquor vend located in Sector 22-C was sealed for violation of prescribed norms. • 21.12.2025 – Two retail liquor vends located in Khuda Lahora and Dhanas were sealed for non-compliance with mandatory provisions related to maintaining the Minimum Retail Sale Price (MRSP).• 30.12.2025 – Two more retail liquor vends located in Sector-42 and Sector-61 were inspected. Violations pertaining to MRSP requirements were found, and both vends were sealed accordingly.

Additionally, the Department is maintaining continuous oversight of manufacturing and bottling operations to ensure transparency and accountability in the excise supply chain. As part of routine compliance checks, a surprise inspection of bottling units operating in the UT was conducted on 28.12.2025. During the inspection of M/s Zannat Beverages Pvt. Ltd., certain discrepancies were observed, based on which breach proceedings have been initiated against the licensee under the relevant provisions of the Punjab Excise Act, 1914 and associated rules.

The Excise & Taxation Department reiterates its unwavering commitment to ensuring a transparent, fair and well-regulated excise administration in the Union Territory of Chandigarh, and such enforcement activities will continue in the future.
