In an initiative aimed at nurturing academic excellence and scientific temperament among the students, 15 Class XI students from government schools in this border district have been sent on a five-day educational tour to Ahmedabad.

DEO (Secondary)Monila Arora said that the tour was being organised under the “National Avishkar Abhiyan”, adding that the selected students, belonging to medical and non-medical streams were the toppers from each block of the district and have been chosen on behalf of their academic performance.

Dr Satinder Singh Deputy DEO (S) said that the primary objective of the inter-state exposure visit was to generate greater interest among students in science subjects by providing them first-hand exposure to institutions and sites of scientific, educational and historical importance outside Punjab. “During their stay in Gujarat, these students will visit premier institutions including IIM Ahmedabad, Gujarat Science City, Rani ki Vav, the Sun Temple, Sabarmati Ashram, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Museum, Kankaria Lake and the Sabarmati Riverfront, along with several other places of historical significance”, said Dr Satinder.

Block Nodal Officer and Coordinator Principal Sanjeev Tandon said that a total of 80 students were selected from the 10 blocks of Ferozepur district for the programme. “Of these, two groups comprising 65 students had earlier been sent on similar exposure visits to Jaipur. As per departmental guidelines, the top 15 students along with two teachers have now been sent to Ahmedabad by air”, said Tandon, adding that all expenses related to the tour, including round-trip air travel, accommodation and other logistics, is being borne entirely by the state government.
