40KG HEROIN SEIZED IN AMRITSAR, FOUR OPERATIVES HELD

 In an intelligence-led operation amidst the ongoing drive to make Punjab a drug free state as per directions of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, Counter Intelligence (CI) Amritsar has busted a narcotic smuggling module with the huge recovery of 40 kg Heroin and arrested four of its operatives, said Director General of Police (DGP) Punjab Gaurav Yadav here on Thursday. 

Those arrested have been identified as Narinder Singh alias Nanni, Suraj, Jacob Masih and Ajay Kumar alias Ravi, all residents of Kot Isse Khan in Moga. Apart from recovering heroin haul, police teams have also impounded their Toyota Corolla Altis car bearing registration number PB03AK1810 and BMW car bearing registration number UP14CJ4646, being used for transporting the narcotics consignment. 

DGP Gaurav Yadav said that preliminary investigation has revealed that the arrested accused had collected a large heroin consignment on the directions of a their handler, who is a habitual narco-smuggler, to further supply across different locations in Punjab. 

As per the information, CI Amritsar had received a specific information about a drug smuggling network is being operated on the directions of habitual narco-smuggler, who is also proclaimed offender, with the help of his accomplices. The information has further revealed that his associates have come to Amritsar to collect a huge consignment of heroin on his directions. 

“Acting swiftly, police teams laid Naka on Amritsar – Tarn-Taran Highway and intercepted Narinder Singh alias Nanni, Suraj, Jacob Masih and Ajay Kumar near DPS school, Amritsar. During their search, total 40 kgs of heroin have been recovered from their possession,” said the DGP. 

He said that further investigation is underway to trace the complete supply chain and identify backward and forward linkages in this case, including possible cross-border connections. 

In this regard, a case FIR No. 1 dated 14-01-2026 has been registered under sections 21, 25 and 29 of the NDPS Act at Police Station State Special Operation Cell, Amritsar.
