The 72-hours long ‘Operation Prahaar’ initiated as part of the first phase of the ‘Gangstran Te Vaar’— a decisive and unrelenting war waged against gangsters by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann remained a big success and resulting in dismantling the support structures of the gangsters sitting abroad.

“The 'Gangstran Te Vaar' is a sustained campaign that will continue with full force until Punjab is completely cleansed of the gangster menace,” said Director General of Police (DGP) Punjab Gaurav Yadav.

Declaring the war against gangsters on Tuesday, the DGP Punjab had launched the massive crackdown against gangsters under the name of “Operation Prahaar”. Over 2000 police teams, comprising 12,000 personnel, were deputed across the state to conduct raids at identified and mapped locations linked to associates of 60 foreign-based gangsters across Punjab.

Sharing the cumulative outcomes of the three-day long operation, Special Director General of Police (Special DGP) Law and Order Arpit Shukla said that a total of 4871 individuals were rounded up across the state, of which, 3256 have been arrested. Police teams have also recovered 69 weapons, 6.5 kg heroin, 10.5 kg opium, 5092 intoxicant pills, 72 kg poppy husk and Rs 2.69 lakh drug money from their possession, he said.

He said that apart from this, police teams have also arrested 80 proclaimed offenders and made 25 preventive arrests.

The Special DGP said that the 72-hours-long operation has achieved its objectives beyond expectations. “Operation Prahaar was a surgical and intelligence-driven strike on the logistics, financial, and communication networks sustaining gangsters,” he said, while reaffirming that ‘Gangstran Te Vaar’ campaign will be continued till Punjab is free from gangsters.

Urging citizens to actively support the campaign against organised crime, Special DGP Arpit Shukla said that people can anonymously report information related to wanted criminals and gangsters, and also share tips on crime and criminal activity, through the Anti Gangster Helpline number 93946-93946. A cash reward of up to ₹10 lakh will be given for information leading to the arrest of gangsters, he said.
