CH-01-CG-2865 USED IN CRIME ALSO RECOVERED

In a major breakthrough, Police Station-Crime, Chandigarh has succeeded solved a high profile theft case involving the CTU Cash Branch, ISBT, Sector 17, Chandigarh and arrested two accused persons. The case was cracked under the leadership of SP/Crime, Chandigarh, with the supervision of Sh. Dhiraj Kumar, DSP/Crime, Chandigarh, and led by Insp. Satvinder Singh, SHO/PS-Crime, Chandigarh, along with the investigating team.

On 27.01.2026, a theft of approximately ₹13,13,710/- was reported from the CTU Cash/Box Branch, ISBT-17, Chandigarh. The theft was committed during the night hours by impersonation of a police officer. The accused, wearing a police uniform and monkey cap, misled the on-duty security guard, confined him in the Record Room, accessed the Cash Room, opened the locker and decamped with the cash.

Accordingly, FIR No. 15 dated 27.01.2026 U/s 305(e) BNS-2023 was registered at PS-17, Chandigarh, and investigation was later taken over by Police Station Crime, Sector-11, Chandigarh.

BREAKTHROUGH & ARRESTSDuring investigation, on 28.01.2026, based on suspicion and technical interrogation, Ved Pal Singh (49 years), resident of Sector-27/C, Chandigarh, was detained. His interrogation revealed crucial leads, following which his nephew Prashant (30 years), resident of Village Mandora, District Sonipat, Haryana, was apprehended. Both accused were formally arrested on 29.01.2026 . 

MODUS OPERANDI : Investigation revealed that accused Ved Pal Singh, who was earlier posted as a Conductor at CTU Cash Branch, ISBT-17 (July 2022 – October 2024), had complete inside knowledge of the branch’s cash handling system, locker keys and staff movement.

Using this insider knowledge: Accused arranged a police uniform to impersonate a police officer. On 27.01.2026 at about 3:00 AM, he entered the Cash Branch while his nephew Prashant waited in the car., The security guard was deceived and wrongfully confined., Cash was stolen from the locker and later shared between both accused.

KNOW THE ACCUSED: Ved Pal Singh  (49) S/o Jai Singh, H. No. 2023, Sector-27/C, Chandigarh, Age 49 Years. Cash money₹1005800/- in a bag, police unform, shoes, a jacket, two key of locker, Car bearing No. CH01CG-2865.  Accused is a graduate and serving as Sub Inspector in Police Custody. Now in Police Custody

Prashant  (30) S/o Harbir Singh, Village Mandora, Distt. Sonipat, Haryana, Age 30 Years. Stolen Cash money ₹3,03,100/- The accused is a graduage and working as Financer in Bandhan Bank in Sonipat (HR), now in police custody.
