CBI COURT SENTENCES FORMER SUPDTT. OF CENTRAL EXCISE TO FOUR YEARS RI IN A BRIBERY CASE

The CBI Court, Siliguri on Wednesday convicted and sentenced the accused Achintya Kumar Pramanik, the then Superintendent of Central Excise, O/o the Assistant Commissioner, Central Excise and Service Tax, Cooch Behar Division, Cooch Behar to Rigorous Imprisonment (RI) for 4 Years with a fine of Rs. 40,000 in a bribery case.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) registered the instant case on 14.09.2015 on the basis of a complaint alleging demand of bribe of Rs. 1,00,000 by the accused from the Proprietor of a private firm.

The CBI laid a trap on 15.09.2015 and caught the accused red-handed while demanding and accepting bribe of Rs. 30,000 from the complainant, and the bribe amount was recovered from his possession.

After completion of investigation, CBI filed chargesheet against the accused on 30.12.2015.The Hon’ble Court, after the trial, convicted and sentenced the accused person accordingly.
