In a major breakthrough amidst the ongoing drive to make Punjab a safe and secure state as per directions of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, Amritsar Rural Police has busted an ISI-sponsored terror and cross-border arms smuggling module with the arrest of two accused persons and recovered one AK-47 rifle along with two magazines and 36 live cartridges among four sophisticated weapons from their possession, said Director General of Police (DGP) Punjab Gaurav Yadav here on Saturday.

(MOREPIC1)   Those arrested have been identified as Gursevak Singh alias Suraj, a resident of New Abadi in Attari, Amritsar and Amarjit Singh alias Rohit, a resident of Subhash Road in Chheharta, Amritsar. Apart from recovering AK-47 rifle, police teams have also recovered three sophisticated 9MM Glock pistols from their possession.

DGP Gaurav Yadav said that preliminary investigation has revealed that the accused were in contact with foreign-based handlers through social media, the module was also involved in radicalisation and spreading Anti-India and Anti-Police narratives, he said.

The DGP said that further investigation is underway to establish forward and backward linkages in this case to dismantle the entire network.

Sharing operational details, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Amritsar Rural Suhail Qasim Mir said that acting on a secret information, teams from Police Station Gharinda arrested two suspects from village Muhawa and recovered weapon consignment comprising AK-47 along with ammunition and three Glock pistols during their search.

The SSP said that probe has revealed that the consignment of weapons were sent by foreign handlers via Pakistan route for carrying out terrorist activities in Punjab.

In this regard, a case FIR no. 80 dated 12.03.2026 has been registered under sections 25(1)(A), 25(6), 25(7), 25(8) of the Arms Act and sections 13, 16, 18 of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) at Police Station Gharinda.
