A one-day seminar-cum-workshop on “Promoting Social Responsibility and Environmental Ethics among Youth” was organized by the Department of Youth Welfare, Panjab University, in association with Paryavaran Sanrakshan Gatividhi, Chandigarh, at the Rajiv Gandhi College Bhawan Auditorium.
The programme began with a “Jal Anjali” ceremony, dedicated to environmental conservation and held in memory of renowned environmentalist and social worker Bhagat Puran Singh. The ceremony was followed by an environmental song that inspired the youth and participants to work for the protection of nature.
(SUBHEAD)The organizing committee of Panjab University welcomed the Chief Guest Prof. Harmohinder Singh Bedi, Vice Chancellor of Central University of Himachal Pradesh, along with Prof. Gurnam Bedi, Shri Parveen Kumar (Convenor, Paryavaran Sanrakshan Gatividhi, Punjab), Prof. Rakesh Sharda, Prof. Tomar, Prof. Namita, and other distinguished guests.
Addressing the gathering, Shri Parveen Kumar urged the youth to actively participate in environmental conservation and transform it into a mass movement. On the occasion, Dr. Rakesh Sharda, Professor at Punjab Agricultural University, emphasized the importance of every drop of water and expressed concern over the rapidly declining groundwater level in Punjab. He also suggested measures to improve groundwater recharge.
During the programme, Dr. Pardeep Kumar conducted a workshop on Wet Waste Management, demonstrating how eco-friendly enzymes can be produced from wet waste generated in homes and hotels.
A street play (Nukkad Natak) on environmental awareness was presented by Dr. Reena Chadha, an alumna and General Manager at IPCA. Environmental games also engaged the youth and helped spread awareness. Posters related to environmental conservation and an exhibition of eco-friendly and recycled products were displayed during the event. Volunteers of Paryavaran Sanrakshan Gatividhi Chandigarh also showcased various environment-friendly products and projects through different stalls.
Earlier, Prof. Latika Sharma, Dean Alumni Relations, welcomed the guests, participants, and the organizing team. The programme was organized with the support of Prof. Suman Mor, Dr. Rohini, Dr. Anju Goyal, and Director Youth Welfare Sukhjinder Rishi. Certificates were also distributed to all the participants at the end of the programme.
