412 ACRES OF FLOOD-AFFECTED LAND HAS BECOME CULTIVABLE: BARINDER GOYAL

Raj Sadosh/Abohar.

Cabinet Minister Barinder Goyal today visited the villages of Khuian Sarwar and Nukerian. He said that two projects of sub-surface drainage systems have been completed in village Khuian Sarwar. In the first project, the problem of waterlogging has been removed from 327 acres of land at a cost of Rs. 5.38 crore. Similarly, under the second project, 85 acres of land has been made usable for agriculture again at a cost of Rs. 2.40 crore.

Thus, 412 acres of land has been cleared from waterlogging and made cultivable at Khuian Sarwar at a total cost of Rs. 7.78 crore. The work on both the projects was started in May 2026.

Goyal said that the problem of waterlogging has been a serious challenge for the farmers of Fazilka district for a long time. He said that instead of providing a temporary solution to this problem, the Punjab government is emphasizing on a scientific and permanent solution. The sub-surface drainage system is an effective step in this direction, through which the excess water can be drained from the land and made fertile and suitable for agriculture.

He said that the waterlogging relief of 412 acres of Khuian Sarwar is not just a development project for the farmers of the area, but a major achievement towards re-fertilizing their land and strengthening agriculture.
