HARYANA POLICE SEIZES 7.9 KG OPIUM, ONE HELD

In a major crackdown against drug peddlers, Haryana Police has arrested a person on the charges of possessing and peddling the drug and seized 7 kg 900 grams of opium from their possession in Karnal district.  

Sharing the information regarding the arrest and seizure of narcotics here today, a Haryana Police spokesperson said that the arrested accused was identified as Shamsher Singh alias Shammi, a resident of Newal, Karnal presently living in district Patiala in Punjab. 

The investigation revealed that the accused has been in the illegal trade of opium for a long time. The accused disclosed that he had bought the seized drugs from Hazari Bagh in Jharkhand at the rate of Rs.80000 and was about to sell it at almost double the cost. (SUBHEAD)

Following a tip-off about the smuggling of drugs in a car, a naka was established on Foosgarh road in Karnal. During checking, Police had stopped a car bearing a Punjab registration number for checking. During the search, police recovered 7 kg 900 gram of opium from a polythene bag kept hidden below the driver’s seat. 

A case has been registered under NDPS Act and the matter is under thorough investigation.
