Danewala (Abohar) XI team defeated Ghaziabad’s Morti XI to win the cup in the final of the 11th Surinder Jakhar Memorial Cricket Tournament that concluded Sunday evening at Panjkosi village here.
The tournament was jointly organised by Surinder Jakhar IFFCO Trust (SJIT) and Panjkosi Sports Society. As many as 64 rural area teams from Punjab, Haryana, UP and Rajasthan participated. IFFCO Director Prahlad Singh Gillankhera, a former Haryana Chief Parliamentary Secretary and SJIT trustee Jaiveer Jakhar were also present. Chief guest Sandeep Jakhar MLA honoured the winners and said his goal was to take away youths from drugs by engaging them in sports, cultural and social activities.
The winning team clinched a cash prize of Rs 2 lakh and trophy. Runners-up Morti XI was given Rs 1 lakh as cash prize and trophy. Man of the Series, Morti XI player Gaurav Tomar was given the Royal Enfield Bullet Motorcycle as a reward and trophy.(SUBHEAD)
Before the final of the cricket tournament, a tug of war was also organized, in which the Dalmirkhera team emerged victorious.
Alankar Gautam, Ved Prakash Dhaka and Laxman Bishnoi were in the commentator’s box. Surinder Jandu, Director, Panjkosi Sports Society thanked all the dignitaries and spectators.
