LAUNGEWALA BATTLE HERO PASSES AWAY

Real Hero of Battle of Laungewala, Colonel Dharam Vir, Mention-in-Despatches left for the heavenly abode at an age of 76 years, yesterday, on May 16 at Gurgaon due to old age ailments. Born on 20 Aug 1945, in Ghudani Kalan village of Ludhiana District, Colonel Dharam Vir was commissioned in Jun 1969 in the Punjab Regiment. He fought the famous Battle of Laungewala in 1971 War.

Leading from the front, he proved to be an example for his men to emulate his leadership, presence of mind, bravery and the daunting courage; for which he was awarded Mention-in-Despatches.
He commanded 23 PUNJAB from May 1992 to Dec 1994 and retired from active service in 1997.

Colonel Dharam Vir, is fondly viewed by the young generation as an extremely brave soldier an iconic warrior and an inspiration. He will be greatly missed by his family, Paltan and the Nation. He is survived by his sons Lt Col Gaurav Bhakhri& Mr. Vishal Bhakhri.
