CITIZENS AWARENESS GROUP HOLDS INVESTOR AWARENESS PROGRAM AT CHANDIGARH PRESS CLUB

Citizens Awareness Group in association with Securities Exchange Board of India (SEBI) organized an investor awareness program at the Chandigarh Press Club here  on Tuesday.

The objective of the program was to educate the investors about the investment opportunities available in the securities market and apprise them about the rights and obligations while dealing in the financial market. Participants were enlightened on the procedure relating to the trading and transfer of securities, risk of theft and fraud in holding securities in depository and availability of loan from a bank against the shares in depository system by pledging them in favour of a bank of his choice. 

Mr. Surinder Verma, Chairman, Citizens Awareness Group said, “Everybody wants to earn money by investing in the huge market. Various companies have employed educated youth and give huge targets to them. But an investor fails to know what has happened to his money. People should search for good companies to invest money in.” He further said that while investing one must understand the goals one wants to achieve. 

(SUBHEAD)Mohita S Dahiya, Assistant General Manager, SEBI, said that the presence of market regulators like SEBI and due to safe regulation adopted by various stock exchanges, the market has become far safer for small and medium investors. If the investor enters the market equipped with fundamental knowledge about the company they intend to invest in, they have a fairly good chance of making a steady profit. Dahiya dwelt upon numerous aspects of the capital market like duties of investors, investor protection guidelines trading and risk management etc. 

Sanjeev Talukdar, Senior Manager, NSE, said equities are the best class of investment and an effective edge against inflation and highlighted the importance of taking financial markets to the masses for the growth of the robust economy and explained the steps needed to be taken by investors while investing. He advised that one should buy stocks only after thoroughly studying the performance of the company concerned. 

The program was attended by about 100 Investors and queries put forward by them were answered by panelists during Question & Answer Session. Mohinder Kataria, proposed the vote of thanks and advised the investors that equities as compared to other investments have performed well and are the best for long term.
