A complaint from a girl namely 'K', r/o Burari, Delhi, aged-20 years, (Who is pursuing study) was received at Cyber Police Station North District, Delhi alleging therein that she had been flooded with obscene photos & videos from unknown numbers. She further alleged that someone had made two Instagram profiles in her name and many other fake profiles of her female friends. She also alleged that accused had threatened to post her morphed images if she didn't make video calls to him.
On the basis of complaint, a case vide FIR No. XXX/22 dated 07.07.2022 u/s 419/354-D/506 IPC read with 67-A IT Act was registered at PS Cyber North and investigation was taken up.
Immediately a dedicated police team led by Inspr. Jitender Joshi, comprising of W/SI Hanshul, HC Bijender and Ct Jatin was constituted, under the close supervision of Inspr Pawan Tomar, SHO/PS Cyber North and guidance of Shri Ratanpal, ACP/Operations North District to nab the culprit.
During investigation, details of the alleged Instagram profiles were obtained from Instagram and on the basis of the same, IP addresses and email IDs used in the registration of alleged profile was ascertained. Further, technical analysis of IP addresses revealed the mobile number and IMEI No. used in the offence which led to fixing of identity of the accused person as Kapil Kumar r/o Baljeet Nagar, Panipat Haryana.
Thereafter, the above said police team rushed to the spot, conducted raid and apprehended the accused person identified as Kapil Kumar, age-22 years from Baljeet Nagar, Panipat Haryana on 12.07.2022. Two mobile phones along with 02 SIM cards being used by the accused and same were used in the offence recovered from his possession. (SUBHEAD)
Mr. Sagar Singh Kalsi, IPS, Dy. Commissioner of Police, North District, said on sustained interrogation from the accused person Kapil Kumar, it revealed that he initially became friend of the complainant on Instagram platform through a fake profile in the name of a local celebrity. After some chats, the complainant shared her mobile number as well as her photographs under the belief that she was sharing the same with some woman celebrity. Later the complainant got suspicious and blocked the accused.
Thereafter, the accused persisted to talk with the complainant and when his efforts failed, he created fake Instagram profiles of the complainant and messaged her on her instagram and started following complainant's followers/friends of instagram and thereby defaming and harassing her.
He also shared her personal mobile number with some boys on instagram who later sent obscene photos and videos to the complainant. The accused further disclosed that he also used to make fake profile of girls on social networking sites to increase his followers.
PROFILE OF THE ACCUSED: Kapil Kumar, age-22 years, r/o Baljeet Nagar, Panipat Haryana & PS Nakur, District Saharanpur, Uttar Pradesh. He is a cashier by profession in a restaurant at Panipat.
