Rajasthan Governor Kalraj Mishra has released the book ‘The folk Dances of Rajasthan' written by former Joint Director of Information and Public Relations Department, senior author and freelance journalist Panna Lal Megh. While speaking about the book PRO Ritu Sodhi said that ‘The Folk Dances of Rajasthan’ will be a milestone in the preservation of its art and culture. Rajasthan has been considered from times, Immemorial, to be a region full of diversities yet possessing very rich inter-woven fabric of cultural heritage.

This quality led the State to attain an international name and fame for divinity, chivalry and romance with rich customs, traditions and culture filled in the mind and hearts of its people. It has motivated them to offer an admirable bouquet of folk dances, songs and a variety of musical instruments.

Such dances are recreational and religious besides being able to arouse National pride.

Ritu said that performance of such arts in groups always creates similarity of thought and such unity results in humanity. Folk dances have made extraordinary contributions to human life. In Rajasthan itself, folk dances are numerous in number and style. These vary according to the local traditions and ethnic groups etc. Most important of these folk dances are Ghoomar, Kalbeliya, Bhawai, Kathputli, Kachchhi Ghori, Gair, Chari and Chang. Each form has its own significance to showcase its history and cultural traditions.
