Punjab Revenue, Rehabilitation and Disaster Management and Water Supply and Sanitation Minister Brahm Shankar Sharma Jimpa said today that the Punjab government was going to spend Rs 1100 crore on the construction of mega water works based on canal water, out of this, two mega water works will be constructed in Fazilka district at a cost of Rs 749 crore, clean drinking water will be delivered to the rural population of 7.73 lakh in the district.
While visiting Teja Ruhela and Dona Nanaka villages along the international border today, Jimpa said that Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann himself has been associated with these villages since he did not enter politics and even now, he has specially sent him here to resolve the problems of these villagers.
He said that mega water projects in Fazilka will be completed by 2024 at Patrewala village and Ghattianwali village respectively. But till then the department has been instructed to repair the non-functional RO plants of all the villages. He also ordered new RO or tube wells to be installed immediately wherever required.(SUBHEAD)
Jimpa also visited the Sutlej River and announced that the river bed would be cleaned. His department will soon start mobile water testing laboratories that will go to the villages and test the drinking water and give the results on the spot.
The minister visited Balluana MLA Amandeep Singh Goldy Musafir’s residence to inquire about the leg injury that he had suffered and advised him a complete bed rest. Jimpa assured that farmers will be soon compensated for the loss that they had suffered due to rain water fury.
