Simranjeet Kaur, daughter of Gurmeet Singh Sandhu, a retired govt school teacher, was warmly welcomed by principal Smita Sharma and national coach Ravi Kumar among others at her alma mater LRS DAV Sr Sec Model School here on her return from France where she has won Silver in Recurve Women Stage 3 competition in the Paris 2022 Hyundai Archery World Cup. India had sent a 16-member team to Paris.
Simranjeet says she took up archery in the Indian Round in 2012-13 and in the first attempt won Gold Medal in the DAV Schools National Competition, also topped in the state school games in the same year, won Gold in India Schools Nationals at Ranchi in 2015, Silver in the International Youth Festa 2015 at Korea, Gold in the Youth World Championship (Archery) in 2015 held in the US and also in the Asia-Cup held in Bangkok in 2016.
The 23-year-old archer has also qualified to represent India in the 2022 Asian Games (XIX Asiad) to be held in September in Hangzhou, China and is the first from Punjab to participate in the Recurve Archery.
