SAD PROVIDES PUMPS TO DRAIN OUT WATER FROM RAIN-HIT VILLAGES

Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) president Sukhbir Singh Badal has started providing heavy pumps to drain out water that clogged some villages in Balluana and Abohar areas due to heavy rain early last month. Badal said after visiting some villages that the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government had failed in arranging logistics in disaster management measures.

Expressing shock at the manner in which the AAP government had run away from fulfilling its duty towards the people in a moment of acute crisis, Badal said despite the fact that six ministers and the chief minister himself visiting the district, special girdawari had not been initiated till yet. “I have talked to some officers and they told me that they were waiting for directions and funds from the govt.”.(SUBHEAD)

He demanded that compensation at the rate of Rs 30,000 per acre be paid to all farmers whose crops and orchards had been destroyed due to heavy rain and resultant flood waters. While farmers lost cotton and paddy crops, Kinnow orchards had also been gutted, the labour force was also in dire straits. Daily wagers who do not have any work due to destruction of crops, should also be given relief.

The former Dy CM also lambasted the AAP government for failing to clean drains which had compounded the problem. He said that tenders for cleaning the drains were called in June instead of April.

He said that farmers of the area had still not received compensation for crop loss due to floods in 2020 and had now been dealt a double whammy. He said the old compensation due to farmers should be released immediately. Badal was accompanied by former MLAs Dr Mohinder Rinwa and Gurtej Singh Ghuriana.
