PUNJAB STATE COUNCIL FOR SCIENCE & TECHNOLOGY AND SCERT ORGANIZE POPULAR SCIENCE LECTURE

Punjab State Council for Science & Technology is implementing a project ‘Science Communication Popularization and its extension (SCoPE) in Punjabi with support of Vigyan Prasar, DST, Govt. of India to popularize Science & Technology among the masses. Under the initiative, a science lecture was organized at Punjab School Education Board, Mohali in association with State Council of Education, Research & Training (SCERT), Punjab.

The Key Speaker of the event was Dr. Rajinder Singh,who is associated with the Research Group- Physics Didactic and Science Communication, University of Olderburg, Germany. It is pertinent to mention here that Dr Rajinder Singh has written more than 40 books dealing with science education, history of Science and history of Nobel Prizes.

The lecture of Dr. Rajinder Singh was focussed on his experience of teaching in Punjab and Germany and the role of universities/ colleges in promoting science education. He also spoke about the importance of documenting the History of Science.

(MOREPIC2)  In the event, Prof. Arun Kumar Grover, former Vice Chancellor of Panjab University and eminent science communicator also delivered talk on ‘Eminent Scientists of Punjab origin’.Dr. Jatinder Kaur Arora, Executive Director of PSCST presided over and underlined the importance of making science teaching interesting for the students to generate their interest in the subject.

SCERT Director, Dr. Maninder Sarkaria, Assistant Director Sh. Rajesh Bhardwaj and State Project Coordinator, Sh. Sushil Bhardwaj were present on the occasion.

50 school science teachers attended the event while more than 200 teachers joined virtually for the popular science lecture.
