The staff of Police Station Sadar Bazar have arrested 04 members of interstate gang of ATM Cheats, who duped many people by changing their ATM Cards deceitfully and recovered 25 ATM cards of cheated persons, one ATM card swapping machine, Rs. 63,000/- and 04 mobile phones recovered from their possession. With their arrest 08 cases of Cheating and Theft registered at different Police Stations of Delhi have been worked out with their arrest.
(MOREPIC1) The complainant Bhoop Singh r/o Kabir Nagar RanaPartapBagh, Delhi, aged-48 years,(who works with Deepak Gupta at his shop Nutex Enterprises at Bahadurgarh Road, Delhi), reported in his complaint that on 07.09.2022 he has gone to withdraw some money from PNB ATM Bara TootiChowk, Sadar Bazar wherein four persons met him and on the pretext of helping him in withdrawing money interchanged his ATM Card and handed over to him another Card. Thereafter, he came to know that Rs. 21,000/- has been withdrawn from his account.Accordingly, a case Vide FIR No. 752/22 dated 07.09.2022, u/s 420/34 IPCwas registered at PS Sadar Bazar and investigation was taken up.
A dedicated police team led by Inspr.PraveshKaushik, (Inspr. Law & Order) comprising of SI Sandeep, SI Nishant, HC Amarjeet, HC Shankar, Ct Mahipal, Ct Dhanisht and Ct Sanjay was constituted to nab the cheats, under the close supervision of Inspr. KanhaiyaLalYadav, SHO/PS Sadar Bazar and guidance of Ms.PragyaAnand, ACP Sadar Bazar.
During investigation, it was revealed that the accused persons have cheated several persons and thus the team focused on collecting ATM footages. However, it was revealed that the gang targeted mostly those ATMs where the CCTV cameras were malfunctioned. The team focused on interrogating the duped complainants and collected footages from nearby shops etc. Secret informers were deployed and photos were shown to them.(SUBHEAD)
The hard work of the team bore success and an information was received that the gang is available at New Delhi Railway Station and is planning to abscond to Bihar. Consequently, a raid was conducted at NDRS and all the 04 accused persons were arrested 08.09.2022.
INTERROGATION: Mr. Sagar Singh Kalsi, DCP, said, on sustained interrogation, the accused persons disclosed that they mostly target Women, Children, Senior Citizens or the persons or are inept in handling ATM Cards on the pretext of helping them, they change their ATM Card with ATM Card of same bank and when the complainant uses the card and insert PIN they stealthily seen the PIN and uses the ATM Card to withdraw money.
Moreover, they disclosed that they work all over India and cheated many people by this modus operandi outside Delhi and Haryana also. After committing fraud in one state they abscond to another state and commit such offence there. All the accused persons are resident of same Village and learned the tricks through Youtube. They purchased the swapping machine through Flipkart. As per record of machine they have cheated more than Rs. 11 Lacks during last one month. Accounts of accused persons are being analysed and further complainantsare being linked.
MODUS OPERANDI: They would carry the ATM cards of all banks and stand outside the ATM kiosks. After spotting a person struggling to use the card, they would come to their rescue. They would help victim to withdraw the money and they stealthily seen the PIN, later deceitfully return an expired card to the unsuspecting victims. Further, if SMS for the transaction made by them is not received on the mobile phone of cheated persons and he does not get his ATM blocked then the accused persons transferred more than Rs. 40,000/- in a single day from the ATM kiosks using the card.
KNOW THE ACCUSED:
Sumitr/o Village Bajol, PS Wazirganj, District Gaya Bihar, age-23 years. Deepak r/o Village Bajol, PS Wazirganj, District Gaya Bihar, age-36 years. Naveen Kumar r/o Village Bajol, PS Wazirganj, District Gaya Bihar, age-35 years. Ritesh Kumar r/o Village Naily, PS Mahakm, District Gaya Bihar, age-23 years. (They all have studied up to 10th standard).
CASES WORK OUT: • 08 cases under the heads of Cheating and Theft registered in Police Stations Sadar Bazar, Kotwali, Wazirabad and Old Delhi Railway Stations worked out with their arrest.
RECOVERY: 25 ATM Cards of cheated persons. One ATM Card Swapping Machine. Cash of Rs. 63,000/- 04 Mobile phones.
Further interrogation is in progress. Raids are being conducted to nab the other co-accused persons if any.
