FORMER MINISTER SUNDAR SHAM ARORA CAUGHT RED-HANDED FOR GIVING BRIBE OF 50 LAKHS TO VIGILANCE OFFICER

The Vigilance Bureau (VB) reported to have arrested former Punjab Minister Sundar Sham Arora on the charge of giving bribe of Rs 50 lakh to Manmohan Kumar, AIG on Saturday.This action against him has taken place in connection with vigilance investigation.

The Punjab Vigilance Bureau said that an FIR has been lodged against the former minister under the Prevention of Corruption Act and a bribe amount of Rs 50 lakh has been recovered from the accused.

Mr. Varinder Kumar, Chief Director, Vigilance Bureau Punjab said in a media briefing, 'Our team caught Sundar Sham Arora red-handed while offering bribe and arrested her under Section 8; A bribe of Rs 50 lakh has also been recovered. We will present the accused former minister in court today and demand remand for questioning.(SUBHEAD)

AIG Manmohan Kumar complained that former minister Arora, who is facing probe in the disproportionate assets case, met him on October 14 and asked him to take sides in the vigilance probe registered against him.

Vigilance Bureau Chief Director Varinder Kumar said, Arora offered Rs. one Crore, to the officer of Bureau and very next day he  offered to pay Rs 50 lakh i.e. on October 15, and the balance on a later date. He had reached Mohali with an advance of Rs 50 lakh. As and when he paid Rs. 50 lacs to the AIG, he was immediately nabbed.

Former Minister Arora will be produced in the appropriate court of Mohali today.
