You might be familiar with the image of your grandmother needling through heaps of yarn to knit sweaters or crocheting with colourful hooks, intricately knotting the yarn into beautiful plant hangers or wall hangings or even coasters. Sometimes, they would knot with their own hands when needles would be stacked away in a corner somewhere. Little did they know that the art that they pursued was macramé – an ancient art form dating back to the 13th century.
(MOREPIC1) Experiencing a comeback, CII Chandigarh Fair 2022 has a selection of stalls displaying the intricate hand-knitted designs, ranging from colourful wall hangings to swings and clocks. The stores of Macramé Art by Neha, Squishy Kawaii Studio, etc. are filled with adorable products, ideal for that bohemian, peaceful vibe.(SUBHEAD)
In the 70s hippie/pop culture in the west, macramé was often incorporated into the “boho” lifestyle. Today macramé is experiencing resurgence as a fine art, with new ideas and designs marrying with the cozy décor of the age, especially after people rediscovered the art during the pandemic.
Vivek Gupta from Macramé Art by Neha takes explained how the art was developed by Arabic weavers and that this was the first time that this was being displayed in Chandigarh.
Hair Affair Accessories & Visionary Décor, a Panchkula-based organisation is showcasing its fascinating handmade accessories and miniatures. From cute headbands to figurines, the stall is bound to catch the eye of little girls who love glittery accessories. Adding to the dazzling charm, are natural oil-based soy candles with a variety of scents such as vanilla and lavender which customers are loving for Diwali.
Satwa from Panchkula is also garnering attraction with their handmade whipped soaps which come in a variety of colours and shapes such as cupcakes, frappes, etc.
