GENDER BASED VIOLENCE: PUNJAB GOVERNMENT TO ORGANIZE STATE LEVEL AWARENESS FUNCTION AT JALANDHAR

After conducting a series of awareness events in different districts, the Punjab Government would organize a State Level Awareness function at Jalandhar on October 27 to further sensitize people on the Gender Based Violence.

According to a spokesperson, the Social Security, Women & Child Development Minister Dr. Baljit Kaur would preside over the function, where information is to be disseminated over various issues including sex & gender, Gender Based Violence (GBV) case management & facilities being ensured at One Stop Centers across Punjab. The Social Security, Women & Child Development Department is organizing the training and capacity building services for One Stop Centres & related functionaries for Gender Responsive Covid-19 recovery in Punjab.(SUBHEAD)

These workshops were focused to train the frontline workers and functionaries at district and block level on the issues related to gender and gender based violence.

The Spokesperson further pointed out that these efforts were being initiated to apprise all the stakeholders about the effective redressal mechanism in such cases besides to learn the process of service and support to the survivor of GBV through One Stop Centres.

The district level functionaries including DPOs, CDPOs, supervisors, staff in one stop centres, child protection units, child care institutions, child welfare committees, juvenile justice board and representatives from police, health and legal services were trained in these workshops.

During these training workshops, the functionaries were given detailed information about relevant laws to redress GBV, POSH, Dowry Prohibition Act, PCOSO, Child Marriage Act and Online Abuse.

Pertinently, these workshops were commenced from Amritsar & Tarn Taran on September 28 followed by Gurdaspur and Pathankot on September 30. Likewise, the events were held at Jalandhar, SBS Nagar, Hoshiarpur and Kapurthala on October 1 with Faridkot, Ferozepur and Fazilka on October 3. Similarly, these workshops were organized at Bathinda, Sri Muktsar Sahib and Mansa on October 12 followed by Sangrur, Malerkotla & Barnala on October 17 and at SAS Nagar, Patiala, Roop Nagar and Fatehgarh Sahib on October 19.
