Inspired from the vision of Sh. Amit Shah, Union Home Minidyrt regarding need to make jails modern technological adept with stringent security measures and introduce better living and health facilities for prisoners, library and training programs for them to help them get back to society and initiatives to promote mental development and adoption of Model Prison Manual to replaceexisting Jail Manual, Sh. Deepak Purohit, IPS, IG/Prisons, Chandigarh has started various initiatives in the field of reformation and reintegration programs for the inmates and prison officers as well. ePrisons has been implemented for digitalization of record.
Video conferencing systems has been set up for reducing physical appearance of undertrials in courts. Adequate security mechanism equipped with latest gadgets like CCTV cameras, Door Frame Metal Detectors (DFMD), Hand Held Metal Detector (HHMD), Under Vehicle Scanning System (UVSS), Bollards are the part of Security strengthening initiative. Apart from this state of art Interview room has been setup to facilitate interview with the family member in conducive environment.
The Hon’ble Prime Minister Sh. Narendra Modishare his thoughts on various topics withthe people of the country and abroad through his program ‘Mann Ki Baat’ which is aired on the last Sunday of every month.This is a unique initiative taken by the Prime Minister to get connected to every citizen from every corner of India and abroad to express his vision, plan and also gives update/status of tasks and ongoing/upcoming projects in public interest.(SUBHEAD)
Since 29the January, 2022 IG/Prison has decided to show the monthly episode of ‘Mann Ki Baat’ to the inmates of Model Jail, Chandigarh which,resultantly, has now become their favorite program. Observing the vision of Hon’ble PM to make a great nation, IG/Prisons, Chandigarh has started Shramdaanby the officials and inmates of Model Jail, Chandigarh under ‘Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan’ to make the inside and outside area of jail neat and clean. Now the Shramdaandrive is done fortnightly by the inmates and the officials/officers of the Model Jail, Chandigarh.
On Sunday IG/Prisons viewed the 94th Edition of ‘Mann Ki Baat’ with the inmates in their barracks and also had meal with them. On some specialoccasions ‘Bada Khana’ (special meal) is prepared for all inmates.On the day of telecast of the program on the last Sunday of every month, ‘Bada Khana’ (special meal) is prepared for all inmates. IG/Prison also interacted with the jail inmates for reviews. The inmatesshared that they get inspired and feel motivated after watching this program, even a High Security prisoner also appreciated the cosmopolitan ideology and expressed interest in the program ‘Mann Ki Baat’. Inmate Sanjeev Nayyar told that he is happy to see live show of Mann Ki Baat as earlier he use to read in the newspaper about Mann Ki Baat program which is like an interactive session with Hon’ble Prime Minister of India. Another inmate Harpreet Singh also expressed that through this program he has come to know about the development projects and other welfare initiatives taken by the government for welfare of every section of society.
