Dr. Sonu Paul, who was recently promoted by the Health Department, today took charge as Senior Medical Officer at the Civil Hospital here. Perhaps, for the first time a woman has been appointed as a regular SMO here. She was earlier working as a Medical Officer at Nakodar.
Dr. Paul visited all the wards of the hospital after meeting the doctors and staff. She said that her priority would be to provide better health services to the patients with the cooperation of the entire team of the hospital. The state government has yet to fill the vacancies of doctors in the hospital, but she will try her best to remove other shortcomings. There is a shortage of medicines sometimes, that problem does not always remain. She would talk to the higher officials in this regard.(SUBHEAD)
The SMO said that any kind of corruption will not be tolerated in the hospital, CM B.S. Mann -led govt. had promised to give corruption-free administration to the people and has been working very strictly against corruption. When informed that the Anaesthesia specialist was on leave, she assured to rectify this shortcoming by talking to the Civil Surgeon.
When told that some of the SMOs from far-flung areas had got transferred from here after a few days of service, she said in lighter vein that everyone wants to stay near his/her house but she would love to stay here to provide better health services to the people with full dedication and hard work.
