Prof Sheena Pall, Coordinator Dr BR Ambedkar Center and History Department, USOL , Panjab university, presented the Keynote Address titled, Contribution of Raja Ram Mohan Roy towards Women’s Empowerment, in a three day 9-11 February regional workshop on Relevance of Raja Ram Mohan Roy in women empowerment and transformation in India.
Prof Sheena Pall highlighted that Ram Mohan Roy fought for the cause of women to transform society into an egalitarian and progressive one. Ram Mohan Roy took up three important issues concerning women: sati, female rights in property and polygamy.
Prof Pall asserted that Raja Ram Mohan Roy structured his convictions on the basis of liberty and justice. His radical views with regard to women’s rights were a part of his scheme for social change.
