The Chandigarh Administration today accepted the recommendations of the CSIR-National Environmental Engineering Research Institute (NEERI), onboarded by Municipal Corporation, to set up an integrated solid waste processing plant.

The recommendations were finalized during a high powered committee meeting held here today under the chairmanship of Sh. Dharm Pal, IAS, Adviser to the Administrator, UT, Chandigarh in the presence of senior officers of Administration and Municipal Corporation Chandigarh.

During the meeting, it was decided that the project would be for a total period of 27 years including 2 years for construction and 25 years for operation and maintenance. The committee also decided that MRF centres would also be operated and maintained by the private party.

The High powered committee directed that emission norms would be extremely stringent and the performance parameters would also be extremely strict. The committee decided that wet waste will be processed Biomethane and CNG while the dry waste will be used for making RDF(refuse-derived fuel) either loose or ingots or pallets.

The committee finalized that this would be executed as a PPP project in which land and VGF would be provided by the MCC while investment is proposed to be done by private investor who would own the by products as well.

Adviser to Administrator said that the administration was committed towards achieving 100% waste processing. He added that the plant will be the State of Art plant and tender for the same will be floated in the month of March, 2023, and completed within 2 years.
