Chandigarh Press Club condemns the suspension of twitter accounts of many journalists, commentators, media organisations, including the independent verticals, related to Punjab.

Their Twitter accounts were ‘withheld’ in India based on a government request.

Today (March 28, 2023), in the morning, the twitter account of BBC’s Punjabi News Service was withheld and has been restored after a few hours.

The status of the twitter accounts of other journalists and media verticals that were withheld earlier is still under suspension.

This is an attack on the freedom of press and against free speech.

Mr. Saurabh Duggal, President of Chandigarh Club in a statement, said, Chandigarh Press Club demands that the accounts of the journalists and media organisations, including independent verticals, should be restored and the government agencies should stop harassing the journalists.
