The demise of Dr. Manohar Chand, President of Pakistan Hindu Council and in-charge of Shri Krishna Mandir Lahore, has sent a wave of mourning among Indian pilgrims as well.
Pakistan media reports said that his funeral rites were performed at Ganga Ram Samadhi in Lahore, his body was cremated later at a Shamshan Ghat near Babusabu in Lahore. Dr. Chand had been associated with Lahore Heritage Club also for the last five years.
Rakesh Nagpal, president of Sarhad Welfare Society, who recently visited Pakistan, while paying tribute to Dr. Chand, said that he had made tireless efforts in renovation of religious places of minorities in the past decades. He had been actively participating in organising Baisakhi fair also.(SUBHEAD)
Lekhak Parishad president Raj Sadosh, who has visited Katas Raj temples in Pakistan five times, said that Dr Chand had served as a member of the Evacuee Trust Property Board and was also associated with Pakistan Hindu Welfare Board, Pakistan Minority Welfare Council etc. He always played a major role in hosting Indian pilgrims through the management committee of Shri Krishna Mandir Lahore. Apart from providing a new aura to the temple, he also contributed a lot in the development of other Hindu institutions. Irreparable loss is also being felt by Indian pilgrims going to Pakistan due to his death.
Pilgrims who went to Pakistan to celebrate Mahashivratri recently said that Dr. Chand and his equally energetic wife Sunita, while leading in the service of the pilgrims, were not looking well but their enthusiasm in all the programs was the same as before. The demise of Dr. Chand is an irreparable loss to the community.
