CYBER CHEATS OF CANADA CALLING: THREE ARRESTED, REMANDED TO POLICE CUSTODY

In a breakthrough under the leadership of Sh. Ketan Bansal, IPS, SP-Cyber, UT, Chandigarh and guidance of Sh. A Venkatesh, DSP/Cyber Crime & IT UT, Chandigarh and supervision of Inspector Sh. Ranjit Singh SHO Police Station-Cyber Crime, Sec.17, Chandigarh, three  accused have been arrested in Case FIR No. 56 dated 15.10.2022 U/s 419, 420, 120B IPC of PS-Cyber Crime, UT, Chandigarh of Canada calling fraud.

The said case was registered on the complaint of Sh. Balbir Singh R/o H No. 286 Sector 51/A Chandigarh in which he alleged that he received a WhatsApp call from unknown number stating that nephew namely Jassi who is living in Canada, was in trouble as he has been arrested by Canadian Police as he had created violence in a night club. Consequently, he had been arrested by the Canadian Police.

In order to get him relief from the police custody, an amount of 5,000 (Canadian Doller) which is equal to Indian amount Rs. approximately Rs. 3,05,000/- was required. Thereafter the caller sent him the bank account details and due to worry of his wife’s nephew, he rushed to bank and transferred the above-mentioned amount of Rs. 3,0,5000/- through cheque. After that, he again received WhatsApp call from same number who stated that so much damage had been caused by Jassi in the night club and in order to compensate the club owner again demanded an amount of Rs. 4,20,000/- (7000/- Canadian Doller). On this he again transferred an amount of Rs. 4,20,000/-.

(SUBHEAD)Later he (complainant) called to Jassi to verify the facts regarding above incident, where he came to know that he had been defrauded of amounting Rs. 7.25 Lacs by an unknown caller by impersonating their relatives. In this regard, a team consisting of ASI Joginder Singh, ASI Jitender Singh, ASI Gulab Singh, Ct. Amar Khokar, Ct. Vinod Kumar, Ct. Vikash of Police Station Cyber Crime have been constituted for further investigation in the case and nabbed the accused.

During investigation, it was found that the cheated amount of Rs. 4,20,000/- was credited in Indian Bank account which belong to Chhotan Kumar S/o Gopi Sah R/o Ward No. 2, H N 72, West Kargahiya Bettiah (Bihar). Further it was also come to know that mobile number registered with above Indian Bank account is also belongs to above account holder Chotan Kumar S/o Gopi Sah.

After verifying the other records and on the technical support, a police party moved to Bettiah West Champaran (Bihar) where on 21.04.2023, a raid was conducted and arrested of accused Chhotan Kumar S/o Gopi Sah R/o Ward No. 2, H N 72, West Kargahiya Bettiah (Bihar) was made West Champaran (Bihar) in the said case.

During further investigation, two more co-accused of Chhotan Kumar named Rahul Kumar S/o Krishana Sah R/o Ward No. 2 West Kargahiya Bettiah (Bihar) and Rahul Ram S/o Ram Lal Ram R/o H No. 3 Ward No. 3 Santh Ghat Kushwaha Nagar West Champaran (Bettiah) have been arrested in the case.

The police remand of the accused has been taken and further investigation of the case is going on. Profile of accused namely Chhotan Kumar S/o Gopi Sah R/o Ward No. 2, H N 72, West Kargahiya Bettiah (Bihar) Age-19 Years, Rahul Kumar S/o Krishana Sah R/o Ward No. 2 West Kargahiya Bettiah (Bihar) – Age- 23 Years ➢ Rahul Ram S/o Ram Lal Ram R/o H No. 3 Ward No. 3 Santh Ghat Kushwaha Nagar West Champaran (Bettiah) Age-27 Years.
