Former SDM and one of the longest serving veteran social activists, B.L. Sikka, passed away today morning. The 87-years-old was Chairman of Punjabi Sabhyachar Manch and a non-official member of the Sub-Divisional Legal Services Authority. He breathed his last at Chandigarh after a few days of illness.
His body was brought here in the afternoon and cremation was done at Nanaksar Shivpuri, amidst a solemn atmosphere, where hundreds of moist eyes paid him their last tribute. His bier was shouldered by daughters Anu, Anjali and Ruby who also performed the last rites.
Sikka’s sons-in-law Sanjiv Berry, Additional Judge of Punjab and Haryana High Court, Vimal Setia Transport Commissioner Punjab and industrialist Vipul Ghai of Panchkula were present.(SUBHEAD)
MLA Sandeep Jakhar and Municipal Corporation Mayor Vimal Thatai offered a wreath to the pyre. Other dignitaries who were here to mourn the demise and express sympathies to the bereaved family were Senior District Sessions Judge Jatinder Kaur, Additional Sessions Judge Jagmohan Singh, Additional Sessions Judge Vishesh Kumar, CJM Amandeep Singh, judges Archana Kamboj, Satish Kumar Sharma, Arjun Singh Sandhu, Rajan Aneja, Rubina Josan, Jaspreet Kaur, former judge Ashok Batra and Fazilka SDM Nikas Khichad.
Among others present to pay floral tributes were Shaheedon ki Samadh Committee present Sandeep Gilhotra and secretary Praful Chander Nagpal, veteran journalists Manoj Tripathi and Rakesh Nagpal.
