HERBAL GARDEN INAUGURATED AT GMSSS 38 WEST

In what will give a major boost to creating awareness among school children about traditional medicinal plants and their uses , Meshaan Foundation, a non-governmental organization (NGO) has created a one-of-a-kind herbal garden at Government Model Senior Secondary School(GMSSS), Sector 38 West, Dadu Majra Colony(DMC), Chandigarh.

(MOREPIC1) The herbal garden was inaugurated by Dr. Nemi Chand Golia, State Liaison Officer(SLO), National Service Scheme(NSS) Directorate, UT Higher Education, and Dr Bharti Sood, Resident Director, PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry(PHDCCI).

“This garden aims at enhancing knowledge of students about various herbal plants.This is the first herbal garden made by us and we will soon come up with our next one at Government Girls Senior Secondary School, Sector 15, Panchkula,” said Dr Prabhjot Guron Bajju, Founder –Director, Meshaan Foundation.(SUBHEAD)

Students of the school's Eco-Friendly Club and its NSS volunteers helped the Meshaan Foundation team to create the herbal garden. A pivotal role was played by the gardener Suraj. Nandini Organic A2 milk farms donated organic manure of pure desi breed cows for the plants. It took 7-8 months to complete the garden.

Dr Prabhjot Guron Bajju, who is also President, Social Service Council, Women's Indian Chamber of Commerce & Industry(WICCI) Chandigarh, further said that the herbal garden is like a dream come true for her. “Educating our school children about herbal plants is the need of the hour to build a healthy and happy India,” she said.

Dr Bajju informed that there are more than 34 varieties in the garden. Some of them are Harad, Lemon grass, Ajwain, Snake plant, Basil, Pathar chat, Haar shingar, Hibiscus, Shama tulsi, Ashwagandha, Bach, Marua, Aloe Vera, Double chandni, Aparajitha, Elaichi, Brahmi, Kalmegh, Vasaka, Centella, and Akarkara.

Those who were present at the inauguration of the garden included Dr Binoy Kumar, Principal of GMSSS 38 West, DMC, Chandigarh; Jarnail Singh, NSS, Program Officer of GMSSS, 38 West, DMC, Chandigarh; Dr Mohit, Spokesperson of Meshaan Foundation; Dr Shruti, Ayurveda Expert and Naturopath; Arjun and Erica, herbal garden project coordinators. The members of Team Meshaan who were present included Diksha, Ashima, Aakansha, Anica, Navreet, Anshuman, Nitay, Sahil, Harshit, Harsh, Bhavya, Palak, Anuj, and Tarun. The gardener Suraj too was present.
