To prevent flooding in Fazilka villages, the bandh on Sutlej River has been strengthened.

Border Area Development Front chief Lila Dhar Sharma, who was present at the place of action, said that the Border Security Force (BSF) is working day and night to prevent damage by floods in the area along the Indo-Pak border in Fazilka.

Last evening, under the leadership of BSF's 66th Battalion Deputy Commandant Surinder Kumar Bohata, officers and jawans carried out the work of strengthening the bandh to stop the rising water from the Sutlej River near the barbed wire fence.

Besides protecting the border, the BSF is also engaged in relief work for border villagers. Even before this, during the severe floods in 1985 and 1996, BSF jawans had helped hundreds of villagers to reach safer places as part of the relief operations.

On Wednesday, rural women were also engaged in strengthening the bandh near the village.
