In a touching gesture, the Students Organization of India (SOI) held a blood donation camp in remembrance of student leader late Vicky Middukhera, on his birth anniversary on Wednesday.

The camp took place at the Student Centre, Panjab University, Chandigarh. 103 units of blood were donated by the participants, mostly students, on the occasion.

During the event, Ajaypal Singh Middukhera, Vicky's brother and Akali Dal leader, announced the establishment of the 'Vicky Middukhera Foundation' in memory of Vicky. “The foundation aims to carry forward Vicky's legacy through various social activities,” he said.

(SUBHEAD)The blood donation camp was conducted under the guidance of Dr Ratiram Sharma, Head of Department of Transfusion Medicine at PGIMER, Chandigarh. Dr. Puneet, a Senior Resident, was also present at the camp. A team comprising of 10 members from PGIMER collected blood from donors.

Under the aegis of the Vicky Middukhera Foundation, several social initiatives are planned. One such project is to identify and provide financial aid to 8-10 students needy students belonging to the economically weaker sections for their higher education. The process of calling for applications for this aid will begin soon, informed Ajaypal Singh Middukhera.

Before the formal announcement of the foundation on the day of the blood donation camp, financial assistance has already been provided to families whose houses were damaged due to rains and flash floods in the Mohali area. Additionally, the foundation also supported the treatment of the injured at the civil hospital.

“It's heartwarming to see such initiatives being carried out in memory of a dedicated and compassionate student leader like Vicky Middukhera,” said a student blood donor. Another blood donor said, “These efforts will undoubtedly leave a positive impact on society.”
